Decluttering Update: Scaling Down

Decluttering Update: Scaling Down

Last June, I opened a 10x20 storage unit so I could start clearing space at home and a decade’s worth of storage dating back to both mine and the boys’ childhood. What I thought would take a few months turned into a yearlong process of sorting, donating, and letting go of everything that no longer fits the life we’re living now.

I’m almost done. Soon I’ll be moving into a much smaller 10x5 unit, filled mostly with business items—and saving over $150 a month in the process.

This has been slow, emotional, and sometimes overwhelming. But it’s also been necessary. I pulled together a short decluttering playlist on YouTube with a few videos that helped me feel less alone in it. These creators talk honestly about survival-mode clutter, guilt, and what it really takes to let go.

It’s not just about getting rid of stuff. It’s about moving forward with less weight—physically and mentally.
